![]() ![]() CrossFit has had a positive impact on lifestyle as well. Who knew I would be 25 trying to learn how to jump rope? It feels good when you start to overcome the hurdle of learning a new skill. Physically, CrossFit has been fun to see muscles develop, strength build, and skills increase. It wasn’t until I started exercising consistently again that I realized how detrimental a sedentary lifestyle is to your health. I was desperate to reclaim a piece of my life and do something for me. I had a very hard time adjusting to sitting behind a desk for 8- 14 hours a day. My first year working full-time at Deloitte was not easy, but I noticed my well-being was declining. The 2 years following football where I exercised every day, I became irritable, unhappy, frustrated but unable to pinpoint my frustration, tired, borderline depressed. What types of changes have you seen (mentally, physically, and/or lifestyle) since starting CrossFit? I think CrossFit and exercising in general has benefitted me the most importantly in a mental capacity. Before moving to Houston, Victoria and I tried a gym that programed CrossFit style workouts for a few months, but it took us a year after we moved to Houston to find a home gym. I never felt like I was getting anywhere in the gym and my motivation dropped. I would show up, wander around, and end up jogging on the treadmill, do some bench and back squat and leave after 2 hours of wasting time. In that gap of time, I struggled going to 24 Hour Fitness and program workouts for myself. It took me over 2 years to officially join a box after finishing football. That began my journey into understanding CrossFit, the methodology, the nutrition, binge watching old CrossFit HQ seminar videos. It destroyed me, but it was the most fun I had in a workout (I was feeling burnout after the intense schedule of being a student athlete). It was a simple workout: Light power cleans, 200m run, ab mat sit-ups. I was highly skeptical and was expecting to be full of criticism. After my senior season, I did an internship where my supervisor coached classes on Saturday mornings and invited me to try it out. What were you doing before CrossFit and how were you introduced to CrossFit? Through college, my strength and conditioning coaches really did a good job shaming CrossFit. Can’t pass up chips and guac/queso (I think that would be unTexan). wind sprints), so I have a chance to get better.įavorite cheat meal : If we’re going to eat Mexican, you can bet it’ll be a cheat meal. I’m not known for my running ability, but I enjoy when we have running (esp. Least favorite WOD or movement : Only movements I’m not good at yet, so mainly work on the pull-up bar gives me a good struggle. I especially enjoy challenging myself on split jerks by trying to be ambidextrous. Doing the technical barbell movements, like squat cleans and split jerks are the most rewarding because when you hit the right positions and have proper balance, you can feel the difference. Now that work is picking up again, you’ll see me bright and early.įavorite WOD or movement: No one favorite WOD yet. Which class time do you usually attend? Pre-COVID I was a 6am-er, but after the gym reopened, I was going to 5:30PM. In the little downtime I have, I do try to play some Xbox, so feel free to add me! The last book I read was, “The Ride of a Lifetime” by Bob Iger in July. I’ve recently gotten invested in learning about coffee. As a natural competitor, I enjoy all sports and will root for all Houston teams (no matter how tough it gets *cough cough* Bill O’Brien). ![]() I grew up loving golf and have been spending the last year trying to rediscover my swing after a few years of not really playing (always down to set up a tee time). Very time consuming and it’s a struggle having to essentially block out my entire calendar from any activities January through March, but I’ve been able to see a lot of different companies, from oil and gas giants to healthcare, so that’s been a cool experience. I am still working at Deloitte as an auditor. We moved to Houston in 2018 from Beaumont after I finished my master’s degree in accounting, and I began working as an auditor for Deloitte. During my senior year of undergrad in 2016, I met Victoria, my fiancée. ![]() I went to high school at Klein Oak and attended Lamar University where I played football for 4 years. I moved to Spring, TX in 2008 from the Poconos, PA. Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, hobbies, interests, etc.). ![]()
